About The Chorus

The Seneca Soundwaves Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the largest women’s singing organization in the world! Our mission is to learn and share the art of singing four-part a cappella harmony in barbershop style. The chorus is now a part of Sweet Adelines International’s Greater NY/NJ Region #15 which is newly realigned effective May 1, 2013, to include 8 incoming choruses from Lake Ontario Region #16 for a total of 23 choruses from New York and New Jersey.

Our chapter was formed in 1995 by four women who loved to sing and decided to start a new Sweet Adelines chorus in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region. Today, Seneca Soundwaves has members hailing from all over the Finger Lakes as well as Monroe, Livingston and Wayne County. Our chorus membership includes women of all ages and backgrounds. All of our singers love the opportunity to improve our singing skills, perform in the community and at regional competitions, and enjoy the fun and fellowship of learning together.

Under the direction of Peggy Morris, we are very active performing in the community for all sorts of events including the Dickens Christmas Festival at Sonnenberg Gardens to the Memorial Day Festival in Waterloo, NY. We also take part in an annual a cappella harmony camp for budding young singers.

We welcome women who love to sing at our regular rehearsals any Saturday morning at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 320 S. Pearl St., Canandaigua, NY at 9:30AM for an morning of fun, fellowship and song! Bring your friend, your sister or your cousin! Let your voice be heard! Catch our Wave!

Director

Peggy Morris became our new Director effective October 1, 2019.  She has been a member of Seneca Soundwaves Chorus since January 2016.  Shortly after joining, she took on Lead Section Leader eventually becoming Assistant Director and has served as a member of the music team, management team and membership committee chair.

She directed the Children’s and Youth Choirs at the United Methodist Church in Fairport, NY and has been involved with various choral groups and bands throughout her life.  Having a father who sang barbershop, Peggy has a lifetime of experience being surrounded with and heavily influenced by barbershop music.

Peggy is in the process of becoming qualified as a Certified Director of Sweet Adelines International.  She provides an exciting and fun rehearsal atmosphere and empowers, inspires and motivates the chorus as we continue our journey of musical excellence every week.

The Seneca Soundwaves Chorus has flourished winning Most Improved Chorus awards at competition in 2000, 2004, and 2011 and the 3rd place Small Chorus award in 2005.

We are excited that Peggy is our new director and know that she will continue to challenge us and lead us into the future.
