About The Chorus

The Seneca Soundwaves Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the largest women’s singing organization in the world! Our mission is to learn and share the art of singing four-part a cappella harmony in barbershop style. The chorus is now a part of Sweet Adelines International’s Greater NY/NJ Region #15 which is newly realigned effective May 1, 2013, to include 8 incoming choruses from Lake Ontario Region #16 for a total of 23 choruses from New York and New Jersey.

Our chapter was formed in 1995 by four women who loved to sing and decided to start a new Sweet Adelines chorus in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region. Today, Seneca Soundwaves has members hailing from all over the Finger Lakes as well as Monroe, Livingston and Wayne County. Our chorus membership includes women of all ages and backgrounds. All of our singers love the opportunity to improve our singing skills, perform in the community and at regional competitions, and enjoy the fun and fellowship of learning together.

Under the direction of Judy Broderick, we are very active performing in the community for all sorts of events including the Dickens Christmas Festival at Sonnenberg Gardens to the Memorial Day Festival in Waterloo, NY. We also take part in an annual a cappella harmony camp for budding young singers.

We welcome women who love to sing at our regular rehearsals any Saturday morning at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 320 S. Pearl St., Canandaigua, NY at 9:30AM for an morning of fun, fellowship and song! Bring your friend, your sister or your cousin! Let your voice be heard! Catch our Wave!

Judy Broderick is currently serving as Interim Director of Seneca Soundwaves Chorus.

She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our chorus.  Her Sweet Adeline career began in 1979 singing with the Kanandarque Chorus.  She has sung with Genesee Valley Chorus, Rochester Chorus, Image City Chorus and  Buffalo Gateway Chorus.

During these years, she has earned Championships in Region 16 competitions while serving as section leader, member of music teams, show chair and Board of Directors (Management Teams).
Singing with Image City Sound Chorus, the chorus was awarded first place in the small chorus category five years in a row, while Judy served as section leader, member of the music team, member of management team, show chair and visual coordinator.

Her quartet experience includes Sing Sations in 1982, fourth place medalist and novice quartet award; Fireside Harmony from 1984/85, third place medalists and A Touch of Class in 1989 Region 16 quartet champions, 1991/92 third place medalist.

Judy joined Seneca Soundwaves Chorus in 2016 and currently serves as Music Director as well as  bass section leader, and performance coordinator,  and management team member  with the Soundwaves.

Judy is a hard worker and a perfectionist.  We can all attest to her attention to detail and her willingness to explore the nuances of expressing emotion and conveying the story to the audience.

We are happy that she decided to take on the job of leading our chorus as Interim Director.  Once the singing bug stings, you are destined to continue learning, growing and improving your singing.  Judy brings that enthusiasm to our chorus and we are happy to call her our leader and sister in song!
